I could have quoted this as well, especially:
"Be what I think I am? Reminds of the Bulleh Shah that I've quoted on Roxana's blog.

But how weird is this. One blog post, one line, or one poem to find out what's true!

Best wishes,

Woody Allen, Recordando a Needleman

también me gusta mucho Tabaquería, lo leí muchas vecesMarianohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03177202819929908161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1852348044310919998.post-31066889850989235702009-02-06T23:27:00.000-02:002009-02-06T23:27:00.000-02:00I've put myself in trouble with the post I wrote, ...I've put myself in trouble with the post I wrote, it is not easily translatable

Well, I'll try.

Small Delights of the Blogging Life

I haven't seen this kind of games in Spanish yet. And it's still true that they keep some of the old scent of a forward-email. Mixed with one of those forum threads which are opened in order to kill time.
Anyway, because of its ludic freedom and because I have things to do, which makes me an easier target for this kind of distraction, I'll break some self-imposed rules just for today: First, one which concerns the policy of this blog, I'll publish a full translation of one of my own posts into another language (yes, the fact that you're reading this implies that I broke a vow to myself). It's a courtesy towards Kubla (http://disquietthoughts.blogspot.com), who tagged me for this. Second, I'll pass something like this on.

The sort-of-game is to post "a phrase that rings true", which, traduttore tradittore, I'll understand as quoting something you would like to have said, and then asking four blogger dudes to do the same thing, that is, pass it on and not back.

Anyone who knows me well knows about my perpetual nightmarish obsession with this poem by Alvaro de Campos (one of Pessoa's heteronyms), "Tabacaria". I've felt really tempted to post it whole, there are many things I like about those verses (the parenthesis about the girl eating chocolates, or "with Death putting damp on walls and white hair on men"), but I think with these lines and links to read the whole poem will be enough.

What do I know of what I shall be, I who do not know what I am?
Be what I think I am? But I think of so many things!
And there are so many who think to be the same thing- there can’t be that many!
Genius? At this moment
A hundred thousand minds dream themselves geniuses like I do,
And history will not register, who knows? not even one,
Nor will it remain but manure from so many future conquests.
No, I do not believe in myself.
In every mental asylum there are mad deranged people with so many certainties!
I, who do not have any certainties, am more or less right?

Whole poem in bilingual version: http://www.historia.com.pt/portuguese/F_Pessoa/Tabacaria/Tabacaria.htm
I don't quite like the translation but it's the only one I've found

(The last paragraph in the main post has links to the tagged blogs)Lupehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12396093043812849925noreply@blogger.com
